You will often see the Tree referred to as a card of spirituality rather than just health on its own. This is because, as before, the Tree is a card that represents life force energy, including any of the natural forces and energies that govern or are felt to govern the Universe. Usually, it tends to represent more esoteric or paganistic, nature-based spiritual beliefs than organised religions for obvious reasons. However, regardless of your religious beliefs or religious affiliation, this card is more about the personal experience of spirituality (whether it’s God moving in mysterious ways, the universe manifesting, karmic energies or natural cycles) and how it works and manifests than the trappings, doctrines and rituals of any religion.
The Cross is very obviously a religious symbol, mainly to represent Christianity. But bear in mind exactly why the cross is the symbol of Christianity; in itself it represents Jesus’s own burden (having to carry the cross to his own crucifixion, the burden of our sins) and self-sacrifice, which continues to be the energy behind the Cross card in general. In spiritual terms, and for the purposes of Lenormand, it doesn’t necessarily just represent Christianity and the Christian church but the symbols and doctrines of any organised religion, particularly where they involve self-sacrifice and the burden of responsibility.
